Building wide field telescope

14th May 2017
With work & work travel, I have not had any time to work on my website. So I have a backlog of images, Mars & Jupiter, the Moon & also some ink drawings by Milan. It is time to clean up & update my website.

I had the opportunity to buy a second CPC 9.25 for a bargain price. This one is being modified exclusively for wide field photography. This model is Hyperstar (Starizona) compatible. The secondary mirror has been permanently removed & replaced by the Hyperstar lens system, giving an f/2.3, 540 mm telephoto lens! The original focuser is in the bin, replaced by the Feathertouch focuser (Starlight Instruments). It is on a wedge & will be used primarily with my modified Canon 450D. This system should take great high detail full Moon shots that could be scaled up to A3 or maybe A2, we'll see. For posting on the web I would stick to 800 pixel width, but would think about allowing download of high definition images. With Winter coming the Moon either side of full will be nice & high in the sky. I don't yet know the exposure times but they will be really short. Should give some pretty sharp images. The deep sky tests of this system look good too & I will also do some deep sky imaging. But it is the lunar imaging that will be special.
