Mare Humboldtianum

Mare Humboldtianum - Moon: North East Region
Rukl 7
Mare Humboldtianum lies on the north eastern limb of the Moon and under favourable libration, as in this case, can be seen in its entirety. At other times it vanishes to the far side. The mare has a diameter of 273 km; it is of course extremely foreshortened. Viewing from the side shows that it is an enormous basin. In particular the mountains along the eastern rim can be seen in profile and would resemble mountain ranges encircling Mare Imbrium, which we only see from above. The heights extend up to several km.
