Moon: South Region

The Southern Region is dominated by the southern highlands, a heavily cratered region that contains the oldest visible craters on the Moon, dating back to over 4 billion years. Just over 100 million years ago however, the newest large crater, Tycho, was blasted into the midst of this ancient terrain. Tycho is the centre of the largest and brightest ray system on the Moon. Mare Nubium is home to the unusual “Straight Wall” (Rupes Recta) together with many wrinkle ridges.
