Ptolemaeus & its ghost craters

Ptolemaeus & its ghost craters - Moon: Central Region
When the illumination is sufficiently low, the walled plain Ptolemaeus (153 km) shows its flooded “ghost” craters. Several are apparent in this image. The lone prominent crater is Ammonius (9 km). Many of the craterlets across the floor are 1-3 km in diameter, though the floor is not as smooth, as shown in images from Apollo 16.
